For the first time in years, shelters, rescues, and advocates across Northwest Arkansas have come together to form the Northwest Arkansas Animal Alliance, a groundbreaking coalition dedicated to addressing some of the region’s most pressing animal welfare challenges.
The alliance represents a historic level of collaboration, bringing together shelters, humane societies, and rescue groups with a shared mission: to create real, lasting change for animals in NWA.
A Unified Approach to Animal Welfare
The challenges facing NWA’s animal welfare system—including overcrowded shelters, limited resources, and increasing pet homelessness—are too large for any single organization to solve alone. By working together, the alliance aims to:
🐾 Increase lifesaving collaboration across shelters and rescues
🐾 Expand access to affordable spay/neuter and veterinary services
🐾 Enhance community education and pet retention programs
🐾 Advocate for long-term solutions to pet overpopulation
Who’s Involved?
The following organizations have officially joined forces:
Municipal & County Shelters:
Fayetteville Animal Services
Washington County Animal Shelter
Springdale Animal Services
Lowell Animal Shelter
Centerton Animal Services
Bella Vista Animal Shelter
Bentonville Animal Services
Humane Societies & Rescue Organizations:
Humane Society for Animals INC, Rogers
Big Paws of the Ozarks
Paws and Claws Pet Shelter, Madison County
Humane Society of the Ozarks
Good Shepherd Humane Society, Eureka Springs
We are proud to report that all large city-operated municipal shelters in Northwest Arkansas have been invited to join, with only one opting out. As the alliance solidifies its objectives and mission, it will continue to expand to include smaller pounds, rural rescue groups, and advocacy organizations to ensure no animal is left behind.
A Call to Action
The Northwest Arkansas Animal Alliance is just getting started, and community support is critical to its success. Whether through fostering, adopting, volunteering, or donating, everyone has a role to play in saving lives.
“This alliance marks a new era for animal welfare in NWA,” said Kayla Mayes with Big Paws of the Ozarks. “We are so proud to play a small part in organizing this amazing group of folks. Together, I believe we can make a bigger impact than ever before and create a future where every animal has a safe place to call home.”
