Training That Saves Lives: How Rescue Day Training Sets Our Dogs Up for Success

Every Wednesday at Big Paws of the Ozarks looks a little different. The energy around our office buzzes with happy tails, bright eyes, and lots and lots of treats.

Our Rescue Day Training program is one of the most impactful things we do. Each week, our pawsome trainers work hands-on with the dogs currently in our rescue — teaching them valuable skills that help them succeed in their future homes.

From leash manners to polite greetings, from building confidence to mastering a relaxed “place” command, our trainers give each dog the structure and communication they need to shine.

For many of these pups, it’s their first chance to learn in a safe, encouraging environment where guidance replaces chaos and connection replaces fear.

These sessions don’t just make our dogs easier to adopt — they make their transitions smoother, safer, and more sustainable. Adopters often tell us how amazed they are at the progress their new family member has already made before coming home. That’s the power of early training and consistent teamwork.

Our trainers bring their patience, skill, and heart are at the center of everything we do on Rescue Training Wednesdays.

Programs like this are what make Big Paws unique. We believe every dog deserves more than a second chance — they deserve the tools to succeed once they get it.

To our incredible trainers, fosters, and volunteers who make Rescue Day Training possible each week: thank you for helping our dogs become their best selves, one paw at a time.
