Big Paws of the Ozarks has an exciting update for Big Paws Academy! In January 2023, we’re expanding our dog training services through the academy, which was launched in December 2021. We’ve all seen first hand the difference that training can make in a dog’s life, and we can’t wait to offer more services to our NWA community of dog lovers.
Offering high-quality dog training services to our community not only strengthens our animal welfare system, but directly supports dogs that have been abandoned, abused, and neglected. Proceeds from our training programming directly support our dog rescue efforts. So when you choose to train your dog through Big Paws you are choosing to train a dog AND save a dog!

Who are the dog trainers?
Big Paws Academy is partnering with familiar favorites who you might recognize from previous events and training sessions. We are excited to announce the hiring of Matt Newton as Director of Training. Matt will oversee Big Paws Academy and the 5 other certified dog trainers.
Which dogs are eligible for training?
Big Paws Academy training options are accessible to dogs of all sizes, breeds, and stages regardless if the dog is a rescue.
What dog training methods does Big Paws Academy utilize?
Big Paws Academy personalizes training for each dog through positive reinforcement and when appropriate, corrective reinforcement such as an e-collar.
How do I choose a training session or package?
Big Paws Academy offers many training packages such as puppy, basic obedience, behavior modification, leash manners, socialization, board and train, etc. You can find more info on picking the right dog training package on our website
What if my dog is reactive around others?
If your dog is aggressive around other dogs or people, a Big Paws Academy certified dog trainer will do a free consultation before any training sessions are booked. We train many dogs that deal with aggression issues, but each dog is different. So we need to understand their temperament and triggers so we can help you choose the package that will be the best fit for you and your dog.
Do you offer deals for rescue dogs?
Any dog that has been adopted is eligible to receive one free training through Big Paws Academy. We may ask for proof of adoption.
